and both wrote posts recently which inspired me to keep an āanti-haulā list of pieces that I almost bought, but didnāt.One of my goals this year is to make more mindful purchases, so that I can increase the wear of items already in my wardrobe and use the money that would have gone towards new things to instead pay off student loans and save up for a wedding. I havenāt set a strict limit on the amount of purchases I can make, but any purchase I make has to 1) get a lot of wear 2) be made from good quality materials, therefore increasing the likelihood of it lasting and 3) be constructed well and fit perfectlyā¦no settling for imperfect fits.
Somehow, without intending to, I havenāt made any clothing, accessory, or shoe purchases so far this year, and I think this anti-haul list has something to do with it. Iām usually pretty good at āwalking awayā from a purchase the first time, but it typically lives rent free in my brain afterwards and I think about it so much that I end up making the purchase a few days later. Now, as soon as I walk away from a purchase, I add the items to this āanti-haulā list. Then when my brain starts spiraling, I just look back at this list and remember why I didnāt make a purchase in the first place. It has stopped me from ācheckoutā a few times this month!
Hereās my March anti-haul list for ya:
Rangel Chloe Top in Black* and White*: LOVED the cap sleeves, cropped silhouette, slight mockneck, and textured detail. Ultimately decided to remove this from my wishlist because I felt the āsuper soft fringe trimā wouldnāt launder very well and ultimately this wouldnāt last very long.
Serpui Abigail Om Bag*: The cutest little bag that would be perfect for spring and summer. However, $450 for a small wicker bag feels likeā¦not a great use of money. I canāt help but wonder if the wicker will wear over time? Iād be willing to purchase this for closer to $200, so Iāll keep this on my wishlist for now and keep an eye out for sales.
Saloni Camille Bows Dress*: We were invited to a black tie wedding recently where the couple requested that everyone wear black. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about the beauty of a classic black dress and also mentioned that I was planning to wear this black Velvet Rhode dress that I already had in my closet. Well, I tried on the dress a few days before the wedding and panicked a little - the fit wasnāt great and the zipper poked out in an odd way on my back, something which I hadnāt noticed before. I ALMOST ended up panic-buying this Saloni dress, which has been on my wishlist for a while, especially because it was an additional 20% off during the Shopbop sale. I thankfully didnāt give into the panic and wore the original Rhode dress and Iām glad I did - that dress got some wear and I saved $400 by not buying a new dress.
The Wolf Gang Seren Asymetric Mini Dress*: I loved the pattern on this dress, but the one shoulder and neckline felt a little too āspecial occasionā for this dress to get the amount of wear Iād want to give it. Iāve kept this item on my wishlist for now, in case any surprise summery special occasions pop up, although itās unlikely Iāll be adding this one to my collection.
Alexis Sariyah Dress*: Iāve been in love with buttery yellows recently and this looked like the perfect dress for spring and summer. However, closer inspection revealed that it was made from polyester, which may get a little hot with the double layers. Additionally, the tie is made from a gold chain detail, which along with the outer net layer, likely wonāt launder well and Iām trying to avoid adding ādry clean onlyā pieces to my wardrobe unless they are really, really special. Removing this one from the wishlist.
Do any of you keep an anti-haul list? If so, what are some items you almost bought, but didnāt?
See you next Sunday,
Cost per Fit
I love the math of the 400$ saving by not buying the dress šš
I love this concept! That Om bag is to die for, but that price point definitely stings.
