Reselling with Croissant
This service helps you resell items already in your closet (and your gmail history)!
I came across a cool service called Croissant this week (Instagram ads worked their magic) and had to share. I’m not sure if this service is available everywhere yet, but it did work for me in Texas. Please note: I have no affiliation with or relationship to this service and all thoughts are my own. Here is the premise:
What if you could sync your email and resell items in your closet (and your gmail history) and get paid within 5-7 days of item verification, without having to take any pictures or keep track of bids or drop any prices? And what if, when you purchase items on partner retailers like Net-a-porter or Shopbop, you could enable the Croissant chrome extension and “lock-in” a guaranteed buyback price for the item, as long as you resold it to Croissant by a certain date?
This is exactly what Croissant is trying to do! Here is a screenshot of the Guaranteed Buyback explanation taken from their FAQ page:
Although I’m trying to make more mindful purchases this year that will (hopefully) last me years, I do have several items in my closet that I’ve been meaning to resell, but just haven’t found the motivation to list on Vestiaire Collective or Poshmark. I was curious to see what I could get for some of these items on Croissant. And so, I created an account and synced my email - here are my observations:
Syncing my email was a very quick process and it was cool to see a bunch of items appear in my “Collection”. If you click on an item, it opens up a window with additional information on when you’ve purchased the item and the original purchase price. Because I keep track of my wardrobe, I could see that not all of the “Purchase Prices” listed were accurate - for example, I purchased this Figue June Dress from Shopbop on sale for $274, but Croissant listed the original retail price of $548.
Another thing to note is that Croissant doesn’t recognize if you’ve purchased an item and returned it, so there will be a bunch of items in your collection when you initially “sync” that you’ve since returned, but you can remove these items by clicking the red “Remove Item from Collection” button shown on the bottom right of the picture above.
The value of “guaranteed buyback” decreases the longer you’ve owned the item. The items in the screenshot above were more recent purchases but if I scrolled down, buybacks were closer to $25 per item.
I was able to identify a couple of items I wanted to resell and clicked the black “Sell” button. Croissant asked me to verify that these items had no visible signs of wear and then added them to a cart for me. Once I was done adding items to my cart, I had the option to bring these items to UPS with a QR code (no label or box needed) or print a USPS label and pack the items. I chose to go the UPS route, although I went ahead and packed the items in a box for the sake of transport convenience. Once I arrived at UPS, the attendant scanned the QR code and I was good to go - super easy!
I have 9 items in my shipment that have a guaranteed buyback totaling $524! Not bad for things that were just sitting around in my closet. Croissant does note that if items are not in good condition, they will either donate these items or send them back to you at your own cost. So, if in doubt about an item’s quality, don’t sell via Croissant. Croissant hasn’t received my shipment yet, so I can’t share whether any of my items were flagged, but I’ll keep y’all posted via Notes.
I think Croissant could be a great way to resell lower to mid-priced items in your wardrobe that may not be worth the effort to you to list on services like Vestiaire Collective or Poshmark. I also love that there isn’t a huge waiting time for processing, like with thredUp or The RealReal.
What do you all think? Would you use Croissant? If you’ve tried it, what was your experience?
Catch you next Sunday,
Cost per Fit 💰
The moment I saw your post, I knew it was for me. I am a resale junky in my closet and this looks like it takes out some legwork. You sold me ;)
I downloaded the app a couple months ago but don’t know why I didn’t want to sync my email with it! Felt a little strange to give an app access to all my emails I suppose? But this is really interesting and makes me want to test it out again!
